Parish News for the 3rd Week of Advent

December 11, 2025 by Oliver Baldwin in Weekly News

This Sunday is the 3rd Sunday of Advent. In the Gospel reading, we hear of an encounter between Jesus and the disciples of John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Christ. Like John’s disciples, let us look for signs of the coming of Christ’s kingdom.

Music on Sunday
This Sunday the choir will sing the Missa quarti toni by Tomás Luis de Victoria and Ich harre des Herrn by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Gaudete Sunday
As we reach the halfway point of the season of Advent, we replace the purple vestments and hangings of penance and preparation with the rose colour of joy and expectation. Everyone is invited to join in this mid-Advent reprieve by wearing pink on Sunday. Mass will be followed by pink fizz!

Carols Around the Piano
On Thursday 18th December, please join us for carol singing around the piano. The lunch after Mass is FULLY BOOKED but everyone is welcome to join us for carol singing, drinks and a raffle from around 1.15pm. Invite your friends and neighbours!

Queen’s Crescent Community Association Christmas Appeal
If you are able to donate much needed food and household items, please do bring your donations this Sunday or next so they can be distributed. There is a list at the back of church. They are also collecting presents for children via the Amazon Wishlist here.

Candlelit Carol Service
Next Sunday 21st December at 5pm our Christmas celebrations begin with the annual All Hallows Candlelit Carol Service. The service will be followed by seasonal refreshments. Invite your friends and neighbours!
