Parish News for the 4th Week of Advent

December 18, 2025 by Oliver Baldwin in Weekly News

This Sunday is the 4th Sunday of Advent. In the Gospel reading, the angel of the Lord reassures a concerned Joseph: ‘She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus’. Let us hasten with the Holy Family to Bethlehem!

Music on Sunday
This Sunday the choir will sing the Mass for Five Voices by William Byrd and Magnificat from the Short Service by Orlando Gibbons.

Candlelit Carol Service
On Sunday at 5pm please join us for the annual All Hallows Candlelit Carol Service. Along with readings and well-known carols, the choir will sing pieces by Philip Ledger, John Gardner and Stephen Jackson, among others. This is always an inspiring and atmospheric service lit by candlelight, and followed by refreshments. Invite your friends and neighbours!

Crib Service for Families
On Christmas Eve at 4pm there will be a short service of readings and carols for children and their families. This is a special service for children telling them the story of Christ’s birth with familiar carols. Do come along with your children and family.

Christmas Midnight Mass
On Christmas Eve at 10.30pm, please join us to celebrate the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The setting is Missa brevis in C by Mozart. The Mass will be followed by fizz.

Mass of the Nativity
We will celebrate Christ’s birth on Christmas Day at 11am. The choir will sing The Coronation Mass by Mozart.

The Octave of Christmas
There will be a reduced Mass schedule during the eight days following Christmas. Mass will celebrated on Friday 26th at 10am, Tuesday 30th at 6pm, and New Year’s Day at 12noon. Breakfast Church and Solemn Mass will be as normal on Sunday 28th for the Feast of the Holy Family.

All Hallows Barn Dance 2026
Please book your tickets now for the All Hallows Barn Dance on Sunday 18th January. It will be a toe-tapping evening with Head Over Reels Ceilidh Band playing the dance tunes. The bar opens at 6pm and dancing begins at 7pm. Booking is essential. Tickets can be purchased with cash from Fr Oliver or online using this link.
