Parish News for Epiphany

January 1, 2026 by Oliver Baldwin in Weekly News

Happy New Year! This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. In the Gospel reading, we hear of the Magi following the star to come and worship the infant Lord. As we begin this New Year, let us like them re-commit to following the way of the Lord. Click here to look up the scripture readings.

Music on Sunday
This Sunday the choir will sing the Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo by Franz Josef Haydn and Omnes de Saba by Jacob Handl.

Mary, the Mother of God
On New Year’s Day the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. Join us for Mass today at 12noon followed by drinks.

Epiphany Chalk and Water
At Epiphany, chalk and water are blessed and distributed for the faithful to bless their homes. Chalk is used to mark the doors of Christian homes. This is a beautiful tradition, eminently appropriate for the beginning of the new civil year. Please collect your chalk and holy water at Mass on Sunday, along with the prayer to use when you get home.

Magnificat
The January edition of Magnificat is now available with daily Mass readings, reflections, and prayers. Could this be a helpful New Year’s resolution for your spiritual life? Speak to Fr James to pick up your copy or to find out more.

All Hallows Barn Dance 2026
Please book your tickets now for the All Hallows Barn Dance on Sunday 18th January. It will be a toe-tapping evening with Head Over Reels Ceilidh Band playing the dance tunes. The bar opens at 6pm and dancing begins at 7pm. Booking is essential. Tickets can be purchased with cash from Fr Oliver or online using this link.

Please let Fr James know if you can help on the night (for a free ticket!)

Confessions
Fr James is available to hear your confession before any of the weekday masses. Please speak to him for more details.
