Laetare!

March 12, 2026 by Oliver Baldwin in Weekly News

This Sunday is the 4th Sunday of Lent – Laetare or Refreshment Sunday. In the Gospel reading, we hear of Jesus healing the man born blind. Like him, let us ask for the gift of faith and spiritual sight.
Click here to look up the scripture readings.

Music on Sunday
This Sunday the choir will sing the Mass in F by Charles Wood and Salvator mundi by John Blow.

Laetare Sunday
This Sunday the Church observes a lightening of Lenten strictures, visible in the rose vestments worn in preference to penitential purple. Everyone is encouraged to join in by wearing something pink.

Choral Evensong for Mothering Sunday
This Sunday is also Mothering Sunday. Please join us at 5pm for Choral Evensong, with music by Charles Wood followed by homemade Simnel cake and liturgically appropriate pink fizz!

Wine and Wisdom
Join us for a new theological discussion over a glass of wine. We will meet at 7pm on Wednesday 18th March to discuss ‘What is the point of church?’ All welcome! Please speak to Fr Oliver for the reading material.

The Bishop of Fulham’s Lay Congress
Next Saturday 21st March, 10am to 3.30pm, a day of teaching with Bishop Lindsay Urwin will be held at S. Alban’s Holborn, including Mass celebrated by Bishop Jonathan. Hot drinks will be provided; attendees are asked to bring a packed lunch. Please speak to one of the clergy for more information if you would like to go.

Lent Lecture 2026: ‘Clocking Longitude’
This year marks the 250th anniversary of John Harrison, whose solution to the ‘longitude problem’ revolutionised how we measure time. Historian Lester Hillman will share the captivating story of Harrison’s achievement in an entertaining lecture on Sunday 22nd March at 12pm. Entry is free to all.

Music for Passiontide at S. Mary Brookfield
We are invited to join our friends at S. Mary Brookfield for a service of music for Passiontide next Sunday 22nd March at 5pm. Their choir will sing Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, accompanied by strings, during a meditative service of Stations of the Cross.

Pilgrimages to Walsingham and Rome
There are still a few places left both for the weekend pilgrimage to Walsingham in June and the midweek pilgrimage to Rome in October. Please ask for more details if you are interested.

Confessions
Fr James is available to hear your confession before any of the weekday masses. Please speak to him for more details.
