‘I am the Resurrection and the Life’

March 19, 2026 by Oliver Baldwin in Weekly News

This Sunday is the 5th Sunday of Lent – Passion Sunday. In the Gospel reading, we hear the story of the raising of Lazarus and Jesus reveals himself to be the resurrection and the life. As we enter Passiontide, let us put our trust in the Lord of Life.

Music on Sunday
This Sunday the choir will sing the Missa Aeterna Christi Munera by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Christus factus est by Anton Bruckner.

Lent Lecture 2026: ‘Clocking Longitude’
This Sunday at 12pm historian Lester Hillman will share the captivating story of John Harrison who revolutionised how we measure time. This year marks the 250th anniversary of Harrison’s solution to the ‘longitude problem’ by making a portable clock for use at sea. Entry to this entertaining lecture is free to all.

Veiling in Passiontide
From Sunday until Holy Saturday 4th April, we are in Passiontide. To mark this sombre season, the images of Jesus and the saints in church will be veiled in purple, a traditional custom symbolising the hidden divinity of Christ as he approaches his time of suffering.

Join us for a new theological discussion over a glass of wine. We will meet at 7pm on Wednesday 25th March to discuss ‘Bread and wine or flesh and blood?’ All welcome! Please speak to Fr Oliver for the reading material.

Solemn Mass of the Annunciation
On Wednesday 25th March at 7pm, S Andrew Holborn will celebrate a Solemn Mass of the Annunciation, followed by a light supper and drinks.
