‘Blessed is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord’

March 26, 2026 by Oliver Baldwin in Weekly News

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. We wave our palms as we welcome Jesus into the holy city of Jerusalem; there, we shout ‘crucify!’ as he mounts the Cross for our salvation. As we enter the holiest week of the year, we commit ourselves to following Jesus to Calvary and await the promise of the Resurrection.

Music on Sunday
This Sunday the choir will sing the Mass for Five Voices by William Byrd, the Passion according to St Matthewby Heinrich Schütz, and Ehre Sei Dir Christe also by Schütz.

Masses during Holy Week
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, the normal Masses will be replaced by a Sung Mass with homily at 7pm. This is an excellent way to enter into and make the most of this most holy time. Confession and the ministries of healing will also be available after these Masses if you would like to avail yourself of these.

Chrism Mass 31st March
On Holy Tuesday, Bishop Jonathan will celebrate his Chrism Mass at S Andrew Holborn at 11am. At this Mass, the bishop will bless the holy oils for the coming year and his priests will renew their ordination vows. All are welcome to attend.

Sacred Triduum
The last three days of Holy Week – Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday – are collectively called the Sacred Triduum (‘three days’). Bishop Jonathan will be with us for these very special liturgies. Please make every effort to come and observe this most holy time.

Washing of Feet
If you would like to participate in the ritual washing of feet on Maundy Thursday, please speak to Fr James.

Good Friday
At 12noon we will observe the Stations of the Cross, followed by coffee and hot cross buns. At 1.30pm we will celebrate the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion, with music by Victoria.

Holy Saturday
The Vigil will be celebrated by Bishop Jonathan at 8pm, at which he will baptise and confirm. Please make every effort to attend this most beautiful of the whole church year, and to support by your prayers our candidates: Rosie, Kelly, Richard, and Alberto. Followed by fizz!

Magnificat Holy Week and April editions
Deepen your daily prayers during Holy Week with a special edition of the Magnificat book. The April edition is also available. Please see one of the clergy for a copy.

Easter Eggs
Faitrade chocolate Easter eggs from the Real Easter Egg Company with the Easter story inside will be available from this Sunday.

Confessions
Fr James is available to hear your confession before any of the weekday masses. Please speak to him for more details.
