October 23, 2025 by Oliver Baldwin in Weekly News

This Sunday is the 30th in Ordinary Time. In the Gospel reading, Jesus tells the Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican. Let us heed the Lord’s words that those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Choral Weekend 25th-26th October
A group of singers will be in the church preparing a set of choral pieces on Saturday and Sunday afternoons culminating in a free performance on Sunday at 6pm and finishing around 7pm. The church will be open for the rehearsals and you are welcome to drop in at any time to listen.

All Souls’ Day
On Saturday 1st November at 12pm we will remember our departed loved ones
at a Solemn Requiem Mass, praying for them by name. If there is a name you would
like to be read at the Mass, please add it to the sheet at the back of church or contact Fr. James or Fr Oliver. Seven-day named memorial lamps can be purchased at £5 each. They will burn in the Good Shepherd chapel from 1st November.

  • There will be no 10am Mass and discussion group on Saturday 1st November
  • The 6pm Mass on Tuesday 28th October will not be a Requiem Mass

Jill Emery
Jill’s ashes will be interred in the columbarium behind the high altar after the 12pm Requiem Mass on Saturday 1st November.

Patronal Festival Mass
On Sunday 2nd November at 5pm, please come to our annual celebration of All Saints’ Day.

This year the Mass setting by Mozart will be accompanied by a string quartet and organ. Our guest preacher will be Fr Philip Barnes, vicar of S Stephen’s, Gloucester Road, Master of the Guardians at Walsingham, and former pastoral assistant of this parish.

Offers of food for the party afterwards will be gratefully received. Please sign up on the sheet at the back of church.

The Sixteen are recording in church 4th-6th November and the church will be closed during this time. The 6pm Mass on Tuesday is as normal, but the Wednesday and Thursday Masses will be cancelled.
